The research on this song was interesting. Jim Morrison liked to write blues songs when he was drinking. There was a roadhouse close to where he lived where the roads were full of curves and it had a cabin behind. Which may be where he got the lines “keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel” and “in the back of the roadhouse they got some bungalows”. It was on their 1970 album “Morrison Hotel”, which is an actual hotel in LA, or was anyway.
The Doors didn’t have a bass player and frequently their keyboard player (Ray Manzarek) played the bass parts. On this song, the bass was played by guitar great, Lonnie Mack. Lonne died at the age of 74 in 2016.
